COP29’s agenda is strategically structured around two core pillars: enhancing ambition and enabling action. The first pillar focuses on elevating national climate plans (NDCs) and conducting a global stocktake to gauge progress against the Paris Agreement.
It also emphasises mobilising climate finance, particularly for developing nations, ensuring financial resources are available to drive impactful climate initiatives. Notably, as of January 2021, 124 countries and one area had declared carbon neutrality by 2050, accounting for 37.7% of the world’s total CO2 emissions. China has declared carbon neutrality by 2060, accounting for two-thirds of the world’s total CO2 emissions.
The second pillar is about empowering action through technology transfer and capacity building, supporting developing countries in reducing emissions and adapting to climate change. The concept of a just transition will be addressed, ensuring that the shift to a low-carbon economy considers social and economic impacts, leaving no one behind.

The laptops we purchase from Circular Computing have net-zero greenhouse gas emissions associated with them as Circular Computing uses high-quality carbon offset projects to offset the emissions associated with the remanufacturing operations. In addition to this, the reuse of precious resources in electrical and electronic equipment reduces the need for mining and the associated environmental and social impacts this causes.”
